Opening on April 24 at the Knox Gallery is Nathan Lawson’s The Mask
Knows: Animal Forms and Silent Watching. Please enjoy the artist’s
animal sculptural forms rendered with various approaches to handling
fibers, and share in an opening reception on Friday evening, April 24
from 5:30-7 pm.
Lawton is a Berkshire native who studied illustration at the School of
Visual Arts in New York City. He and his family decided to settle in the
Berkshires where he continues his website design business and pursues
development of his art.
This exhibition marks his first exploration into sculpture, and utilizes the
everyday material of cardboard as a fibrous material, in strips and
solids. More broadly, the artist states that “these pieces reflect my
longstanding interest in image-making, storytelling, exploring the space
between visibility and concealment.”
Our exhibit is the public premier of Lawson’s masks! Please join the
artist and your neighbors for the reception on the opening evening.
