Click on the CWMARS icon for Aspen, the CWMARS catalog, which has all nine million items in the over 160 CWMARS libraries! You may want to use filters to see if the physical items are here in Monterey, or simply click to put a hold on the item to have it sent here. You’ll also see downloadable resources in the Aspen Discovery layer as well.

If you can’t find what you want in CWMARS, try COMCAT to look at all the libraries in Massachusetts.

And if you can’t find it there, please ask us. We can search the United States! We’ve been able to have items shipped here from Oregon and Florida and many points in between.

Digital Resources:

Here are some hints for online content:

CWMARS has quite a selection from Overdrive.  What you’ll need to do is download Libby from the App Store, which is free.  You’ll need to enter Monterey Library as Home Library, and CWMARS as the library network.  Then enter your library card details, the card number and password, and borrow away.  There are books and audiobooks available.  Use your preferences to modify default searches  and display settings.  If you’d like to see what other library networks in Massachusetts have, you can!  In the app menu, find “Add A Library.” Under that search for SAILS, CLAMS, MINUTEMAN or any of the others. Tap that network and you can search their offerings.  You’ll need to enter your card number and pin after you select “I’m visiting from another library.”

HOOPLA is a service funded by the town of Monterey for people with Monterey CWMARS cards. When you access it you will need to search for and click on the Monterey Library in the dropdown. The advantage of HOOPLA over Libby is that there are no waitlists for HOOPLA. If you find it in the catalog, you can borrow it immediately. Because of the way we are charged for each item that is borrowed, we have placed a limit of ten borrows per month per card.

If you’d like more options, including streaming videos, you’ll want an e-card from the Boston Public library. You don’t need to go to Boston to get it.  Sign up for an e-card using your CWMARS card.  To begin with, the BPL e-card is available to anyone who owns property in Massachusetts, or is a student, or resident of the state.

One option through the BPL is KANOPY.  Watch over 30000 Documentaries, Classic and Indie Films. You’ll need to download the KANOPY app.  Use your BPL card number and pin, and make sure to use BPL as your home library.

Your BPL card with work with other resources that the Boston Public Library has as well.

To access all of these services you’ll need a CWMARS card.  If you don’t have one, please email montereylibrary@gmail.com.  We can help you get the card number and pin that will allow access to these services.

ONLINE MONTEREY LIBRARY RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO ALL:

Monterey Library You Tube Channel

We are slowly developing this to include our vintage summer camp films, short videos from the library, and oral history interviews. Our newest addition is the parade for Monterey’s 150th Anniversary. Check it out!

Monterey News 1970-2005/ Monterey Town Reports/ Digitized local history

We are fortunate to have a page on Internet Archive to store digitized local history. Hint: the default search is for metadata, it is much more useful to click on the button for search text contents. Then simply enter the name, place or event that you are searching for and Internet Archive will search Monterey History for matches.

Ancestry

Ancestry Library Edition is available from the library building. You’ll need to come in and use one of our desktop computers, one of which is a Mac.

PERIODICAL DATABASES:

PowerSearch makes it possible to find subjects from A-Z in one or several of the Gale’s periodical databases in a single search. This is especially good for subjects that may be covered more than one database, such as diets, careers, etc.

Gale databases are funded and supported by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Massachusetts Library System
