MONTEREY LIBRARY NUMBER 2 ON THE WAITLIST FOR THE STATE CONSTRUCTION GRANT PROGRAM!
Out of the 33 libraries that applied, Monterey was ranked number 11. The program is approved for 110 million by the legislature. The first 9 libraries were awarded 68 million. Only one other library is ahead of us in ranking, so we did very well. We're not exactly sure when the remaining money will be disbursed, but the amount recommended for Monterey is 1.85 million. That means the town meeting vote for the bond is covered and now we await word from the state. The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the grant reviewers wrote and told us that we have met all the requirements and our project is in line to get the money! In the meantime the trustees have voted to continue with our current architect and project manager. We are poised to start a fund drive to privately raise enough money to hire them to work on plans and permits while we await the official awarding of our grant money. Thanks to everyone who participated in all different ways, whether it was filling out a survey or attending a forum, voting for the project on any of the three votes at town meeting, or donating to the Friends of the Library. We are working on numbers that will work for the architect and finalizing how much we already have so we can move forward! Stay tuned!
